There are a few schools in the Fort Lauderdale area for pursuing a graphic design degree. The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale offers programs in graphic design, digital media production and media arts. Broward Community College has a variety of degree programs in graphic design, visual communications and fine arts. Next door in Miami, the options are more plentiful. Barry University offers a BA and a BFA in art with a graphic design specialization option.
The economy of Fort Lauderdale is strong and continues to expand in this rapidly growing area of Florida. In Broward County, the number of graphic design jobs is predicted to increase by only 3.38% annually through 2012, but that amounts to 48 new jobs created every year in addition to the existing positions which currently number over 1,000. With normal attrition in existing positions figured in, it is estimated that there will be almost 70 full-time job openings every year, which doesn't even begin to account for the work potential of freelance and self-employed graphic designers.
