Colleges and universities in the Fort Lauderdale area have a lot to offer in the way of criminal justice studies and paralegal education. Keiser College offers associate degrees in criminal justice, homeland security, and paralegal. Broward Community College offers associate degrees in criminal justice, crime scene technology, and polygraph technology, as well as for paralegals. Nova Southeastern University has bachelor degree programs in criminal justice and paralegal studies, as well as Ft. Lauderdale's only law school, Shepard Broad Law Center.
Students interested in criminal justice and legal careers will find many employment opportunities in Fort Lauderdale. Law enforcement occupations are forecast to grow 29 percent overall through 2012, with increases of 34 percent for police and sheriff's patrol officers, 26 percent for detectives and criminal investigators, and 22 percent for correctional officers and jailers. Growth of 19 percent is expected for legal occupations, with increases of 16 percent for lawyers, 25 percent for paralegals, and 40 percent for court reporters.
